In the optics and photonics industry, it’s often said, “If you can’t inspect it, you can’t make it,” and this holds especially true for thin-film coatings. At Notch Optics, we embrace this principle with advanced inspection capabilities, ensuring our coatings meet the highest standards of precision and quality.
We utilize three Perkin-Elmer spectrophotometers, each equipped with specialized accessories and detectors to provide unmatched versatility. Our instruments include a Lambda 900 with the PELA-1030 variable absolute reflectance accessory for measurements between 10° and 70°, a Lambda 950 featuring the Universal Reflectance Accessory (URA), and our latest addition, the Lambda 1050 with the Total Absolute Measurement System (TAMS). These tools allow us to perform highly accurate spectrophotometric inspections across the ultraviolet (UV), visible, and near-infrared (NIR) spectrums.
For prisms and other optical components, this equipment enables precise measurement of bi-directional transmittance and reflectance, with variable angles of incidence (AOI) ranging from 5° to 80°. Additionally, we can measure angular-resolved scattering (BRDF/BTDF), providing critical data on light scattering properties. These capabilities ensure that every coating produced by Notch Optics meets the stringent requirements of modern optical systems.
